BCDC's History
In 1974 a
group of concerned parents led by J. Phil Roberson, Sr. joined together
to create more opportunities for their children with developmental disabilities.
This shared concern led to the incorporation of Beaufort County Developmental
Center (BCDC).
Located
at 1534 West Fifth Street in Washington, North Carolina, BCDC is the
largest private nonprofit organization in Beaufort County. BCDC
services have grown to include
Residential Assistance,
Vocational Training,
Supported Employment,
CAP/Medicaid Waiver Program,
Child Development Services
and Transportation to over 300 citizens with Developmental Disabilities. BCDC
has branched out in all directions with multiple assistance programs
for those with disabilities.
BCDC has
developed a broad array of services to meet the educational, residential
and vocational needs of citizens with disabilities. Other vital supports,
including a child development center and countywide transportation services,
have been created to assist the families of these citizens.
