Employment Solutions
BCDC provides two community-based employment services:
- Work Adjustment Job Coaching
- Supported Employment, “Individual Job Coach” model
The “Work Adjustment Job Coaching” service is totally community-based. Services provided in the community, include job development/placement and job training/intervention/coaching. In order to maintain employment, individuals referred for this service require minimal assistance and no long-term support.

The “Supported Employment – Individualized Job Coaching” model may include supplemental evaluation. It is preferred that this service be provided in a community integrated work environment; however, on occasion it is provided in a center-based Community Rehabilitation Program (CRP) setting. When this occurs, the service is very short-term and task specific, with measurable assessment goals outlined by the consumer and their vocational rehabilitation counselor, job/training site development, intensive training/job coaching and long term support (on-going services after the individual placement has been determined stable). This is a support service that is provided when upon evaluation it is determined that the individual needs in order to maintain employment in a competitive work environment.
Individuals receiving either service are assigned a “Community Employment Specialist” who provides one-on-one individualized assistance based on the individual’s Person Centered Plan.

When a consumer is
ready for employment in the community, they move into BCDC's Supported Employment Program
called Employment Solutions. In this program, Community
Employment Specialist work closely with the consumer to evaluate
their job interests and goals. The Specialists then seeks
employment for the consumer in the community. Once the job
has been identified, intensive training begins to ensure the
consumer feels comfortable in their new career choice.
During this phase, the Community Employment Specialist works
one-on-one with the consumer until they feel comfortable in
their job duties. The Specialist then gradually fades out
while continuing to monitor the new employee. This program
is very beneficial to consumers just entering the workforce as
it allows employers as well as consumers to feel comfortable
with the new employment.

This
is a highly successful program that was established in 1993. Since
then, BCDC has been responsible for over 200 competitive
employment placements in the community.
