Mentoring Day -
October 14, 2008
"We believe that
people with disabilities have a right to live and work in their
home community. BCDC is dedicated to providing them with
the opportunity they need to make this possible."

Traditionally, the month of October has been designated "Disability Employment Awareness Month".

The goals of
Disability Mentoring Day are to...
-
Increase internship and employment opportunities for people with disabilities;
-
Dispel employers' fears about hiring people with disabilities;
-
Promote disability as a central part of diversity recruitment for a more inclusive workforce;
-
Serve as a launching point for year-round efforts to foster more career-oriented mentoring opportunities; and
- Expand employment opportunities and eradicate perceptions that obstruct those living with disabilities from gaining employment.

The Beaufort County
Developmental Center is a local coordinator of this event. We are always looking for
corporate sponsors as well as mentors and mentees for the event.
