School to Work Transition
Program
"We believe that
people with disabilities have a right to live and work in their
home community. BCDC is dedicated to providing them with
the opportunity they need to make this possible."

BCDC contracts
with Beaufort County Schools to provide a school-to-work
transition program for students 18 years and older. The purpose
of this program is to help students from the exceptional students
program make the transition from student to worker while
continuing to work toward their high school certificate.
Students are
selected for participation in the program by the Director for
Exceptional Students with Beaufort County Schools and approved for
admission into the program by BCDC’s ADVP/CAP Coordinator.
Students
typically follow a half-day schedule, spending half of their day
in the classroom and the other half in the transitional program.
Emphasis is on adjustment to a work environment and routine, basic
work related skills, and job exploration. The goal of the program
is to get students ready for work in the community.
